Amber Cain

Amber Cain is a passionate African Nova Scotian community advocate with deep roots in North Preston. Amber’s family and connection to her community holds a special place in her heart that directly influences her passion for community development, equal access to education, youth mentoring, and historic storytelling.

Raised in Toronto by two North Preston natives, Amber experienced early life in a diverse metropolitan city that misunderstood and overlooked her experience as a young Black Nova Scotian. The lack of academic support for Black Canadian students is what influenced her individual move to NS to live with her Grandmother where she completed her High School studies.

Amber graduated from Cole Harbour High with honours before attending Toronto Metropolitan University where she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology. Her unique cultural experiences and sociological background encouraged Amber to be more deliberate with how she shares her story as an African Nova Scotian navigating the complexities of higher education.

As the College and University Student Success Coach at The PREP Academy, Amber now has the amazing full-circle opportunity of sharing her experience and applying all she’s learned over the years to help support African Nova Scotian students pursuing Post-Secondary education. Amber is honoured to provide support and encourage the next generation of ANS students to achieve their education and career goals.
